July 7, 2026 – Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and XRG have entered into a strategic‑cooperation agreement with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as Mitsui & Co.), aiming to jointly tap fresh growth opportunities throughout the energy value chain.

The agreement was officially signed during Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the UAE, UAE Special Envoy to Japan, Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of ADNOC and Executive Chairman of XRG’s visit to Japan. Under this deal, the parties will explore cooperation across liquefied natural gas (LNG), crude oil, sulfur, shipping and petrochemical sectors, and jointly evaluate international energy investment prospects via XRG.

Nasser Al Muhairi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC’s Downstream, Marketing and Trading division and Chairman of Ruwais LNG, commented, “Japan represents a core strategic market for ADNOC, and Mitsui & Co. is our long‑standing trusted partner. This strategic accord broadens our collaboration scope spanning the full energy value chain from LNG, crude oil and sulfur to shipping and petrochemicals, and unlocks new prospects for global investment and low‑carbon growth through XRG. By pooling our complementary strengths, we strive to strengthen supply resilience, deliver enhanced value for our clients and advance sustainable long‑term growth across Asia.”

Ken‑ichiro Yamaguchi, Senior Managing Executive Officer of Mitsui & Co., stated, “This strategic cooperation agreement reaffirms Mitsui & Co.’s solid commitment to the United Arab Emirates. We are convinced that it paves the way for deeper partnerships with ADNOC and XRG throughout the energy and petrochemical value chain. Mitsui & Co. values our long‑term fruitful cooperation with ADNOC dating back to the 1970s, and we sincerely appreciate this chance to establish an extensive multi‑dimensional framework for future collaboration.”

The framework defines cooperation in a wide array of strategic areas including crude‑oil market development and long‑term supply, LNG sales and optimization, sulfur procurement and logistics, plus shipping solutions for LNG, ammonia, sulfur and other commodities.

With the support of XRG, ADNOC and Mitsui & Co. will also review international investment opportunities within the energy value chain and deliberate over potential joint projects for low‑carbon fuels and petrochemical products such as methanol schemes and other initiatives within the TA'ZIZ ecosystem.

Japan ranks among ADNOC’s top strategic markets, with ADNOC supplying roughly one‑third of Japan’s total crude‑oil imports.
