Covestro has completed the acquisition of two former Vencorex HDI derivative production facilities located in Rayong, Thailand, and Freeport, Texas, USA, with the transaction formally closed on 1 July 2026.
The deal further extends Covestro’s global production footprint for HDI derivatives and underscores the company’s long-term commitment to the two regional markets. It also equips Covestro with greater flexibility and reliability in supply to serve clients across the coatings and adhesives sector.
HDI (hexamethylene diisocyanate) derivatives are core raw materials for high-performance polyurethane coatings, adhesives and sealants. They are widely deployed in automotive coatings, infrastructure protective coatings, marine coatings, wood furniture, electronic products and other industrial scenarios with stringent performance requirements.
Thomas Roemer, Head of Covestro’s Coatings & Adhesives segment, commented: “By adding production sites in Thailand and the US, we reinforce our regional manufacturing capacity and elevate local supply to our customers. Especially amid the current challenging market landscape, reliable supply, regional delivery capacity and professional technical support are critical to our partners. This acquisition positions us to better address all these needs.”
The two new sites will complement Covestro’s existing HDI derivative production network spanning Europe, Asia and North America. The expanded setup will further boost the company’s responsiveness to customer demands and underpin long-term growth in high-performance, more sustainable coatings and adhesives applications.
Monique Buch, Chief Commercial Officer of Covestro, stated: “Solid customer partnerships are built on trust, consistent reliability and the ability to deliver sustained value. This acquisition consolidates our standing in this business segment — our customers count on us for consistent product quality, localised supply and technical backing for application development.”
The transaction further demonstrates Covestro’s unwavering dedication to deepening its presence in the coatings and adhesives industry. Prior to this move, Covestro also acquired DSM’s Resins & Functional Materials business, and continues to vigorously pursue organic growth initiatives.
