Emirates Biotech will showcase its full-range products at the 2026 Saudi Plastics & Petrochemicals Exhibition from June 21 to June 24, marking the official market entry of the company’s Embio PLA product portfolio into Saudi Arabia.
This milestone fully demonstrates the prominent environmental strengths of plant-based biopolymers across multiple application scenarios, including packaging materials, food service supplies, consumer goods and 3D printing. Such eco-friendly materials can be widely adopted in a wide array of daily consumer products.
François de Bie, Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates Biotech, stated that the exhibition serves as a vital platform to gain insight into the rapid development of Saudi Arabia’s plastics industry and sustainable development sector.
“Saudi Arabia represents a high-potential and fast-growing market for sustainable materials. Biopolymers such as PLA support the delivery of sustainable development goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030. They also accelerate the global transition towards a circular and more sustainable model for material consumption,” he added.
Hashim Alfulful has recently joined Emirates Biotech as Sales Development Manager, taking charge of market expansion and sales business in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait.
Prashant Lohade, who oversees sales development for the UAE, Oman and India regions, commented: “PLA biopolymers can effectively cut carbon footprints, while featuring excellent recyclability and complete biodegradability. The application of PLA materials generates zero microplastic pollution to the ecological environment.”
In an interview with media in April 2026, Marc Verbruggen, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Biotech, revealed that the construction of the company’s PLA production plant has been temporarily suspended due to prevailing logistical bottlenecks and safety concerns amid the current global environment.
The planned annual production capacity of the PLA plant stands at 80,000 tons, with a scheduled commissioning date in 2028. The company aims to launch at least one PLA production unit and strives to build two production lines in total.
In terms of global market supply, the annual global output of plastics reaches approximately 200 million to 300 million tons, while the current annual production volume of PLA is merely 500,000 to 600,000 tons. Industry forecasts indicate that the global PLA market capacity will expand sharply to the million-ton level in the future.
